Another Great Result for Parker School’s Debate Team

The Parker School Debate Team can be proud of another strong performance, this time at the Mid-Pacific Institute Qualifying Debate Tournament on Oahu on February 16. Parker came in second place overall out of the fourteen schools that participated in the six-round, 15-hour tournament. Iolani School earned first place.

Parker students took first place in four out of the six debate categories: Paul Gregg in Championship Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Sivan Najita in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Elliott Jacobson and Maia Tarnas in Advanced Public Forum Debate, and Kyley Nishimura and Nya Phillips in Beginning Public Forum Debate. Lysha Matsunobu qualified in Championship Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Keala Prietto and Nohili Thompson qualified in Advanced Public Forum Debate. 

From the last two qualifying tournaments, Parker now has fifteen students who have qualified for the state tournament in April.  They will next compete in the Big Island District Debate Qualifying Tournament which will take place on March 5 at Parker School.

Parker School Debate Team Wins State Championship

The Parker School Debate Team took first place at the Hawaii State Forensic Championship, which was held at Kamehameha Schools’ Kapalama Campus and Punahou School on Oahu on April 18-19. They won by just one point, with 28 points to Iolani School’s 27 points and captured the Cades Schutte Debate Sweepstakes Trophy.
